St. Paul's United Methodist Church

Our church family began as a dream in the hearts and minds of our parent church, Trinity Methodist Church, during a retreat of the official board in 1957. The rapid growth of the community was making the need for a second Methodist church more obvious each year. In 1959 Trinity's board purchased land on the south side of Idaho Falls. A year later the new church was formed.

Two sets of beautiful stained glass windows were installed over the years. The sanctuary glass was added in 1977 by Allan Stalker. Given as a memorial to Jeff Gisler, a dedicated and influential charter member of St. Paul's. The rays represent the light of God and His rainbow.

The foyer glass was added on Mother's Day in 1986. They were created by John Sackett as a memorial to Lillian and Henry McIlwaine. The windows point to the holding together of opposities. The angel on the left holds a loaf of bread and the right the cup of salvation. The two windows are drawn together by the lines in the background symbolizing the closeness to God.

St. Paul's began with a heart for mission as the church was named after Saint Paul. It has continued to serve in mission, especially as we crept into the 21st century. We experienced an increase in mission trips and participants in the 90's continues to the present. Mission trips teach us to care for others and in caring for others God's image starts to shine through us. We currently focus on needs both in our community as well as globally.
